The results for the Nobel Peace Prize 2025 are in, with Maria Corina Machado claiming the honor, much to Donald Trump’s disappointment.

A total of 338 candidates were put forward for the Peace Prize, with María Corina Machado being declared the recipient. Maria Corina Machado received the award for her relentless efforts championing democratic freedoms for Venezuela’s citizens and her fight to secure a fair and peaceful shift from authoritarian rule to democracy.

Trump was vocal about his desire to be considered for the accolade, declaring in August, “I’ve done six wars, I’ve ended six wars. If you look at the six deals I settled this year, they were all at war. I didn’t do any ceasefires.” The news emerges as Fox News viewers slam hosts for ‘glorifying’ Donald Trump with Nobel Peace Prize statement.

Nevertheless, the following day, while speaking with Fox News, he revised the figure to seven wars, reports the Mirror US.
He reinforced this claim last month, insisting no one had “ever done anything close to that”.

He also drew comparisons between himself and former president Barack Obama, a past recipient of the award, during last year’s presidential campaign, stating, “If I were named Obama, I would have had the Nobel prize given to me in 10 seconds.”

The President recently referenced Obama’s victory again on Thursday at the White House, informing reporters, “Obama got a prize for doing nothing. Obama got a prize, he didn’t even know what he got it — he got elected and they gave it to Obama for doing absolutely nothing but destroying our country. He was not a good president.”

In July, Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu publicly nominated Trump for the prize, stating that Trump was “forging peace as we speak” in “one country and one region after the other”.

On October 8, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky also expressed readiness to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if he aids in securing a ceasefire with Russia.
However, despite the president’s recent success in establishing an approved ceasefire plan in Gaza, it seems it was too late to sway his chances of winning the prize.

Nina Graeger, director of the Peace Research Institute Oslo, shared with Sky News this week, “It’s highly unlikely that the recent developments in Gaza will influence the Nobel Committee’s decision.”
She explained that “By this stage, the laureate will already have been chosen, and speeches prepared ahead of today’s announcement.”

Graeger added, “However, if Donald Trump’s 20-point plan leads to a lasting and sustainable peace in Gaza, the committee would almost certainly have to take that into serious consideration in next year’s deliberations.”

She further stated, “Of course, they would also need to weigh that achievement against the broader record of his efforts to promote peace – both within the US and internationally – in line with Alfred Nobel’s will.”

Past notable recipients include Barack Obama in 2009, the World Food Programme in 2020, Al Gore in 2007, and the late Jimmy Carter in 2002.
