Lionel Messi didn't hesitate when asked if Michael Jordan is the true GOAT instead of him

Lionel Messi made his feelings very clear when he was asked if Michael Jordan is the true GOAT ahead of him.

Messi and Jordan are widely regarded as the GOAT of their respective sports.

The Argentinean, who won the World Cup with his national team in 2022, has a record eight Ballon d’Or titles to his name, having forged a legendary career.

‘MJ’, on the other hand, won an impressive six NBA championships during his legendary career with Chicago Bulls as he transcended the sport of basketball.

But who’s the overall GOAT between Messi and Jordan?

Speaking to Argentine journalist Juan Pablo Varsky on an episode of the Clank! podcast, Messi said: “It seems to me, in terms of sports, he’s the greatest there is (…) But after having seen his series and getting to know a bit more about him, you know, ‘The Last Dance’, it just blows your mind, it’s a masterpiece, it’s impressive.”

He added: “Well, that also brought me closer to him and to understand a bit more about who he was. It’s a pity that I couldn’t live through that era in person, because I would’ve loved it.”
In another interview, Messi revealed that Jordan is the one and only athlete from the sports world that he wants to take a photo with.
From the sports world, I would like to have a photo with [Michael] Jordan – meet him and have a photo with him,” he revealed.
Of course, Messi is plying his trade in Jordan’s home country with Inter Miami, having played in Europe following his spells at Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

The vast majority of basketball fans consider Michael Jordan to be the greatest NBA player of all-time, and it’s easy to see why.
Jordan enjoyed a remarkable 14-year career that saw him win six NBA Championships and a slew of individuals honours.

The Chicago Bulls legend transcended the sport to become one of the most recognisable athletes on the planet, while his long-standing partnership with Nike helped to transform him into a cultural icon.
Some incredible players have graced the NBA in the years since Jordan retired in 2003, but it’s hard to argue that any have surpassed him in the all-time GOAT rankings.

LeBron James and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are often mentioned alongside Jordan in the NBA GOAT conversation, but Shaquille O’Neal believes another top star deserved to be up there.

After Steph Curry inspired the Golden State Warriors to a comeback overtime win over the Boston Celtics – who went on to win the NBA finals – in December, O’Neal made his case for the star to be included in the GOAT conversation.
“I’m wondering — I’m not saying, I’m just wondering — because he’s been consistently the best shooter his whole career,” O’Neal said.
“I’m wondering is it time to start putting him as the best player of all time?”
Kenny Smith asked if Shaq would put Curry over himself, to which the former LA Lakers star replied: “Yes.”

O’Neal clarified that while he wasn’t putting Curry over Jordan, he believes it’s time for Curry to join the conversation.
The conversation on TNT Sports’ ‘Inside the NBA’ was prompted by Curry scoring 33 points and providing six assists in the Warriors’ comeback win against the Celtics.
The 36-year-old added a new chapter to his remarkable career this summer when he helped the United States win basketball gold at the Paris Olympics.
