Major update in deaths of Kansas City Chiefs fans who ‘froze to death’ at friend’s watch party

Major update in deaths of Kansas City Chiefs fans who 'froze to death' at friend's watch party

Nine months after three Kansas City Chief fans were found ‘frozen to death’ in their friend’s backyard, charges are expected to be brought soon – but not against the homeowner, his attorney said.

The bodies of David Harrington, 36, Ricky Johnson, 38, and Clayton McGeeney, 37, were found in the backyard of their friend Jordan Willis’s home in Kansas City, Missouri, on January 9 – two days after they all gathered to watch the Chiefs play the Los Angeles Chargers.

While toxicology reports showed they had cocaine, THC and fentanyl in their systems, officials have not revealed a cause of death for the men.

Their friends and family believe that Willis, an HIV scientist, was involved in their ‘untimely’ deaths.

Willis’ attorney, John Picerno, told Fox News that although ‘charges [will be] forthcoming in the next few weeks,’ his client ‘will not be charged.’

‘I can say with confidence that my client will not be charged in that regard. My client will not be charged in any manner with having to do with the untimely death of his friends,’ Picerno revealed.

Instead, Picerno said that anyone who potentially provided the football fans with drugs could face charges.

The criminal liability could be for a felony murder charge if somebody provided those young men with drugs,’ he told the outlet.

Picerno said it’s ‘definitely out of the ordinary’ how long it’s taken for the investigation to be completed.

The Kansas City Police Department labeled it a death investigation instead of a homicide.

‘I don’t know what caused this investigation to go on for nine months. That would be a better question answered by the prosecutors,’ Picerno said.

The Kansas City Police Department told DailyMail.com: ‘We have not received any new updates from investigators at this time.’

A spokesperson for the Platte County Prosecutor’s Office told Fox News: ‘It’s still an ongoing investigation. I assume when something is done, [Platte County Prosecutor] Eric [Zahnd] will be doing a press release. We don’t have a timeline to report, unfortunately.’

Despite being ‘confident’ that Willis won’t face criminal charges, Picerno said that civil charges are not out of the question for his client.
He added that he’s been contacted by lawyers representing the victim’s families, threatening to file civil suits against Willis.

Still, Jennifer Marquez, Harrington’s mother, is trying not to ‘get any hopes up.’

‘Of course I am extremely happy to hear that there may be something going on,’ she said after hearing about the possible charges.

‘I have not been told anything. They just have not relayed any information to us, the families, though, so I have nothing as far as information.

‘We’ve not been getting the autopsies or any information like that. They do not want us to be able to release anything that would hurt the case, I guess.

‘Of course, I would love to see people held responsible for this and I believe Jordan should be held responsible. It was his home, he had the party, and, you know,’ Marquez added.

Days before their bodies were found in Willis’ backyard, family members tried to get in contact with the homeowner. His lawyer previously said Willis was ‘asleep on the couch’ for two days.

Eventually, the fiancée of one of the men broke into the house through the basement and found the first body in the backyard. She then called police, who arrived to find Willis in his underwear, holding a wine glass.

Willis claimed to not have left his home for two days and slept with noise-canceling headphones that blocked the sound of his friends’ family frantic knocking.

Willis moved out of his home within days, fearing retaliation. He then checked into rehab.

Picerno said his client’s ‘life changed forever’ after his friends died.

‘It’s an awful thing when people have already presumed you’re guilty without real evidence. It’s a tough road to home, and he’s managing it as best he can,’ the lawyer said.
A source close to Willis’s family told Fox New that ‘many people have turned on him’ and he ‘still struggles with the aftermath of all of this.’

Dave Grohl hired divorce lawyer before announcing he had a baby outside of his marriage: report

Dave Grohl reportedly hired a divorce attorney before announcing he had fathered a child outside of his marriage.

People reported Wednesday that the Foo Fighters frontman allegedly enlisted a divorce lawyer after 21 years of marriage to Jordyn Blum.

The exact date that he retained legal counsel, as well as the reason why, is unknown. His rep did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.

Grohl, 55, surprised fans on Tuesday when the musician announced that he had an extramarital affair that resulted in him welcoming a daughter.

I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage,” Grohl wrote in a statement on Sept. 10. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.”

Grohl went on to say that he loves his wife and their children and is doing everything possible to “regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”

We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together,” he added.

The former Nirvana drummer did not disclose the identity of the woman with whom he shares his newborn girl.

Grohl already shares three daughters with Blum: Violet Maye, 18, Harper Willow, 15, and Ophelia Saint, 10.

His eldest daughter notably deactivated her Instagram account after her dad posted the statement, though it’s unclear if her account went cold over the baby drama or for other reasons.

Blum, 48, met Grohl at a bar in West Hollywood, Calif., in 2001 and they tied the knot nearly two years later on Aug. 2, 2003.

“When I first met my wife, we went out on a few dates, and I decided that I wasn’t ready for a serious relationship, so I just stopped calling,” Grohl previously told Elle in 2007. Three months later, Grohl “had a revelation” and called her up.

She picked up the phone and said, ‘Oh, I never thought I’d hear from you again,’” he reminisced.

The former model and Grohl appeared happy in their last public sighting — two months before welcoming his fourth daughter with the mystery woman.

Blum and Grohl were photographed laughing and chatting while attending Wimbledon in London on July 2.

Patrick Mahomes branded ‘a chubby fast dude’ by Ravens rival after loss to Kansas City Chiefs last week

Patrick Mahomes branded 'a chubby fast dude' by Ravens rival after loss to Kansas City Chiefs last week

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey took a veiled shot at Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes while giving him a backhanded compliment on his play.

Humphrey and the Ravens fell 27-20 to the Chiefs in the opening game of the NFL season last Thursday.

On the latest episode of his ‘Punch Line’ podcast, the cornerback talked about how difficult it is to beat Kansas City and what Mahomes brings to the game.

‘It felt good to get out there, play some ball. I’ve realized KC’s one of the few stadiums I have not won a football game in. I think I’ve got three more.

‘But it’s hard to beat the Chiefs. Very tough to beat the Chiefs. So you wanted to get the dub, but it’s hard to beat Mahomes.

‘What makes him very good is he does some pretty wild stuff, which sometimes catches him but a lot of times he doesn’t. He gets away with a lot just ’cause he’s always willing to test it, willing to try it.

‘He’s a chubby fast dude. I’m always amazed when he’s outrunning people or juking poeple in the backfield, getting out of a sack and just launching the ball.

‘Honestly, to keep it a stack, I be dadgum happy when I finish a practice on two feet, honestly. So, it was good besides freakin’ losing and getting back at 4:00am after a loss, which makes everything way worse. Other than that man, it’s good to be back playing ball.’

Mahomes and the Chiefs eventually got the last laugh – in part, thanks to the Ravens cornerback.

Humphrey gave up a crucial late touchdown on a blown coverage when he let Chiefs rookie receiver Xavier Worthy get past him for an easy six points.

That was Worthy’s second touchdown of the night and was the ultimate nail-in-the-coffin for Kansas City’s victory.

Lamar Jackson, the Ravens quarterback, engineered an excellent late drive that would have ended in a Baltimore victory were it not for the toe of tight end Isaiah Likely being out of the end zone as time expired.
