Selena Gomez reveals very bizarre hack that helps 'heal' her depression...and experts say it might actually work

Selena Gomez is treating her mental health problems with a bizarre ‘therapy’ that involves cold water and space heaters.

Following her breakdown in 2018 and her bipolar disorder diagnosis, the 32-year-old singer and actress has found her own methods of staying well.

In an interview with Vanity Fair on Monday she claimed she had ‘tools and protocols’ to take care of herself, which included using temperature as a ‘healing mechanism’.

Gomez, who has suffered with depression, anxiety and panic attacks, confessed she finds ‘cold water or space heaters to be soothing’.

It may sound strange but research has shown temperature, whether it’s an ice-cold plunge or a soothing warm bath, could be key to boosting your mood.

Despite not sounding pleasant, taking a cold plunge could boost your mood.

In fact, cold exposure was found to relieve depression symptoms in a 2007 study by researchers at the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine.

Cold exposure is thought activate the nervous system and increase blood flow to the brain, which triggers the release of noradrenaline.

This neurotransmitter has been shown to have a positive effect on mood.

Some studies have also found a spike in dopamine after exposure to cold water, which is known as the pleasure hormone.

The anti-depressive effects of cold water exposure could also be, in part, caused by cold receptors in skin, notes a 2014 study on the effects of hydrotherapy.

These thermoreceptors — which detect heat and cold — send electrical impulses to the brain, which can trigger a pain-relieving effect, according to the researchers.

Professor Michael Tipton, an expert in physiology at the University of Portsmouth, and colleagues, detailed that a 24-year-old woman had been suffering from anxiety for years and then developed depression.

After a variety of medication didn’t work, she was told to swim in cold water once a week. ‘This led to an immediate improvement in mood following each swim and a sustained and gradual reduction in symptoms of depression,’ the medics wrote.

In a follow up a year later she remained medication free.

But it’s not just cold water that Gomez finds soothing, she also claims warmer temperature help her.
While Gomez opts for ‘space heaters’ to help her deal with her mental health struggles, studies have also found warming up the body can also have positive effects on mood.

One 2016 study by researchers from Wisconsin University, US, tested the theory on 24 patients with severe depression.
Researchers heated coils and placed them around the patients increasing their body temperature to 38.3 degrees. They then turned the heat off and let the patients cool down for an hour.

The study revealed 60 per cent of the patients responded to the treatment and 40 per cent met the criteria for remission from their depression after a single session.

Although the link between heat and depression is not fully understood, some experts believe high temperatures might play an important role in reducing inflammation.

Others say heat relaxes the body and slows down negative thoughts.
In another 2023 study, 12 adults with depression received eight weekly cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) sessions and four ‘heat sessions’ over this eight week period.

The heat sessions saw patients have their body temperatures raised to 38.5 degrees Celsius — 1.5 degrees above the average human body temperature — in an infrared chamber.

Researchers observed the participants moods and found ‘negative thinking’ reduced in 20 per cent of cases. At the end of the study 11 of the 12 adults also no longer met the threshold for major depressive disorder.

Justin Bieber focused on ‘being a great dad and husband’ after Sean….see more

Justin Bieber has not focused on his old pal Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sex trafficking arrest after welcoming his son, Jack Blues, with wife Hailey Bieber.

“He’s aware of Diddy’s arrest and all the allegations,” an insider told People on Sunday. “It’s not anything that he wants to focus on, though.”

The source explained that the “Baby” crooner has stayed busy “in a happy bubble since baby Jack was born” last month.

He just wants to focus on being a great dad and husband,” the insider continued.
He just wants to focus on being a great dad and husband,” the insider continued.
Combs, meanwhile, was arrested at the Park Hyatt New York City on Sept. 16 after “voluntarily” coming to the Big Apple “in anticipation of the charges,” a source told Page Six.

The disgraced rapper, 54, is currently at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn.

He was charged with sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, transportation to engage in prostitution and fraud.
Per a grand jury indictment obtained by Page Six, the Bad Boy Records founder was also accused of “creating a criminal enterprise” with members who participated in “sex trafficking, forced labor, kidnapping, arson, bribery and obstruction of justice.”

According to the documents, more than 1,000 bottles of lubricant, drugs and three AR-15s were found in Combs’ Los Angeles and Miami estates when they were raided in March.

The “I’ll Be Missing You” emcee maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Since the sex trafficking raids at Combs’ mansion, “creepy” clips of a young Justin with Combs have resurfaced.

One video of the then-15-year-old “Peaches” singer showed him standing alongside Combs as they bragged about the unspeakable antics they would be doing that day.
Where we hanging out and what we doing, we can’t really disclose, but it’s definitely a 15-year-old’s dream,” the disgraced rap mogul said.
Combs explained Justin was signed with Usher, whom he had “legal guardianship” of in the early ’90s when he produced the “Yeah!” crooner’s self-titled first album.

“I don’t have legal guardianship of him [Bieber], but for the next 48 hours, he’s with me,” Combs said. “We gonna go full buck full crazy.”

“Going crazy,” Justin added.
Days later, another “disturbing” video showed Combs questioning why Justin distanced himself from him, as the “STAY” singer’s career began to skyrocket.

“Starting to act different, huh?” Combs said. “You haven’t been calling me and hanging out the way we used to hang out.”

“I mean, you tried to get in contact with me throughout all my [projects] and what not — but you never got my number,” the dad of one responded while stumbling on his words.

Hayden Panettiere speaks on viral ‘uncomfortable’ interview: ‘I hadn’t slept….see more

Hayden Panettiere is sharing her side of the story after fans became concerned over an interview she recently gave to People magazine that sparked questions about her mental health and sobriety.

“It’s unfathomable that I’m even in this position, but I feel forced to address it in a space where I won’t be criticized for how fast or slow I speak,” the “Nashville” alum wrote via Instagram on Sunday.

“I hadn’t slept for two days prior to the shoot due to one of my dogs who was recovering from an emergency surgical procedure.”
She also addressed allegations that she was under the influence during the interview.

“Grief looks different on everyone,” Panettiere wrote. “Whether or not I am on medication is none of anyone’s business and is between me and my doctor.”

Additionally, the 35-year-old actress claimed she was “exhausted” during the interview which followed an eight-hour shoot.
My rep stopped the interview early as it became obvious that I was fading—especially as the subject matter became heavier,” she wrote, adding that they were told that the magazine “would edit it and that it would be a beautiful piece.”

She went on to say that the “real issue here is the toxicity of social media, and a news cycle that is driven by click bait.”

Panettiere then signed off the lengthy post with a message for her supporters.
For those of you who have come to my defense amidst this chaos I am so grateful,” she added. “Like I’ve said before, I am a work in progress. We all are.”

The day Andrew Tate's girlfriend claims she came out of the shower to find him raping….see more

Andrew Tate has been known to try to pass off his misogyny and his systematic humiliation and degradation of women as just ‘an act’. But allegations of rape and grooming suggest that his performance was all too real, and pulls the rug from underneath the ideology driving his movement.

When we returned to the UK after confronting Tate at his headquarters in Romania for our television documentary exposing who he really is, we received a flurry of emails from women who had known him at his home town of Luton back in 2015 and 2016. Their stories were all similar.
