Officials allude that the fatal round was fired from about 200 meters away by a suspect with a long gun. Kirk was rushed to a nearby hospital. However, he didn’t make it. The FBI confirmed the alleged gunman has been taken into custody, though identity and motives remain under investigation.

Kirk’s death sparked reactions across political and sports communities. President Donald Trump described the assassination as a “dark moment for America” and pledged a nationwide manhunt.
