Travis Kelce provides Jason Kelce retirement update as discussed with brother “There’s too much going down in the moment..”
Travis Kelce believes big brother Jason ‘still got some football left’, after a week where the Philadelphia Eagles center’s future made plenty of headlines.
The 36-year-old was part of the Eagles team that suffered a shock defeat to the Tampa Bay Bucaneers in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Jason has long-considered hanging up his cleats, but after defeat to brother Travis and the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 Super Bowl, he choose to return in the hopes of lifting the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the second time.
After Monday’s defeat, Kelce was reported to have told his teammates that he intends to retire for good. He played that down during his ‘New Heights’ podcast alongside Travis, admitting the immediate aftermath of a game was no place to be making a final decision.
But during a press conference on Friday, Travis, who is preparing to face the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional Round on Sunday, rejected the claims that his elder brother’s NFL career is over.
“It came out that he retired and he didn’t really say any of that,” the Chiefs tight end explained.
The end of that game, I think everyone kind of felt for him knowing that he has been thinking about it a lot over the past couple years. The documentary shows that. You don’t need to go around and ask anybody. It’s been cool to see everybody appreciate who he’s been over the years this past week. I think the big guys still got some football left if he wants it.”
Travis reinforced Jason’s comments from the latest episode of the siblings’ New Heights podcast, who also said he has not made that decision on his future. “There’s too much going down in the moment to really fully grasp that decision,” the NFL center said.
“I just don’t think you’re in a position after a game like that to really make that decision. There’s too much emotion in the moment. I’m not trying to be dramatic and continue to draw this thing out. I’m really not. When it’s time to officially announce what’s happening, it’ll be done in a way that’s definitive and pays respect to a lot of people that have meant a lot to me and have led to the career I’ve had.”

The couple were spotted leaving hand-in-hand after Swift, 34, performed her third Eras show at Amsterdam’s Johan Cruijff Arena on Saturday, July 6. Kelce, also 34, had come out to support the singer at her final concert in the city, after also attending the previous night’s show.
In a video posted by a concertgoer on TikTok, Swift and Kelce held hands as they walked out from backstage at the arena following the show. Swift smiled and waved at fans as Kelce raised his arms in the air, hyping up the cheering crowd.
Kelce then pointed at Swift as fans continued to celebrate her, before the pair exchanged a sweet look. The tight end then sweetly held out his hand to his girlfriend, who took it as they walked hand-in-hand toward an exit in the arena.
