Winona Ryder: Jeff Bridges refused to kiss me during audition over 21-year age gap
Winona Ryder recalled Jeff Bridges refusing to kiss her during an audition because she was two decades younger than him.
The “Beetlejuice” actress was 21 years old when she tried out for the 1993 film “Fearless” with the “Starman” actor, who was twice her age at 43 years old.
“Jeff Bridges, who I love, like, wouldn’t kiss me because I was, like, too young,” she said in Monday’s episode of the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast.
Ryder, now 52, remembered they were “supposed to kiss” at the end of their scene, so she closed her eyes and puckered up before Bridges, now 74, hesitated.
He kissed my forehead, and he’s like, ‘You’re, like, my daughter’s age, you know?’ And I was like, ‘No, no!’” she said while laughing.
Bridges shares daughters Isabelle, 43, Jessica, 41, and Haley, 38, with his wife of 47 years, Susan Bridges.
The “Edward Scissorhands” actress did not specify which role she was trying to snag in “Fearless,” which ultimately starred Bridges, Isabella Rossellini, Rosie Perez and John Turturro.
Ryder went on to star in the popular film “The Age of Innocence” that same year, which earned her an Oscar nomination for best actress in a supporting role and a Golden Globe win in the same category.
“I feel like that was sort of my graduation, too, because when you’re a teen actor and a kid, you’re always hearing about the transition into adult roles and how it’s impossible. … I feel like ‘Age of Innocence’ really was huge,” she said elsewhere in the podcast interview.
Ryder later scored a second Academy Award nomination for her role as Jo March in 1994’s “Little Women.”
She has also starred in “Girl, Interrupted” as well as the upcoming film “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.”
Ryder also starred in the Netflix show “Stranger Things” and helped cast Sadie Sink after seeing her act in “The Americans.”

Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift headed to Lucali in Brooklyn for pizza on Friday night after the loved-up couple flew to New York for the weekend.

They left Kansas City earlier on Friday for the Big Apple after Chiefs star Kelce had helped his team to an opening-day win over the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL, cheered on by Swift.
He and Swift, who lives in Tribeca, Manhattan, headed out to the iconic pizza joint and celeb spot as their celebrations for the Chiefs triumph continued into the weekend.
A stunned diner shared a picture of the two of them walking into the restaurant holding hands, captioning the picture: ‘And for our fellow diners @taylorswift @killatrav’.
Swift was wearing a black blazer while Kelce was wearing a beige sleeveless sweater along with a black cap.
